Rich was raised on a farm in SE Iowa, outside of Bonaparte in historic Van Buren County.   He graduated from Harmony High School and received his BME from Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant in 1972.   Retiring from public school education after 34 years of teaching, Rich and his wife, Yvonne, moved to West Des Moines in August of 2006.  .   Yvonne is an 8th grade Special Education Teacher in the Dallas Center-Grimes School District. They have two children;  Sarah, a graduate of the University of Kansas and the University of Tulsa Law School, and Andrew, a graduate of North Iowa Area Community College and Buena Vista University.

Rich has been involved in many different churches as either choir director or organist or both.  He most recently was the organist on a 19-rank Dobson Pipe Organ at First United Methodist in Algona, where he also directed the Algona Chamber Singers, a community-based performing ensemble of local talent.

Rich and Yvonne are avid gardeners and collectors.  They have a large yard with many varieties of hosta, daylilies and other perennials.  They also collect carnival glass vases, Depression glass, glass baskets, and sets of carolers.  Our family is pleased to be an active part of Grace Lutheran Church.
